We harvest wood betony leaf in early summer, after the plants have flowered and set seed and thus directed its energy back to leaf growth and maintenance. This provides a more sustainable harvest than leaf-and-flower preparations as we support our wood betony population in expanding while our lead herbalist assures you the leaf-only tincture is potent and effective.

Wood betony is a curious plant due to its hemiparasitic nature. It can grow on its own, but flourishes when it lives in community with sedges! We support our wood betony population by collecting, winnowing, and re-sowing its seeds; as well as interplanting a native woodland sedge into the existing wild patches in fall of 2024.
